merry christmas, happy holidays, all.
i was going to update today with all the work that i did over the semester that i hadn't posted up here yet in memorium of finals being over (which i did great on, four A's, two A-'s and one B- but it was math so its cool) definitely my best semester thus far.
because of my holiday laziness, i am not going to post all that stuff up, because, well i'm updating my website very soon i'm in the process of and all the new stuff will be there (and its going to be flash ooooOOOOooo).
so, i'm just going to post the artsy things i made for my parents and brother for christmas, which they all adored.
and i got an illustrated life by danny gregory which is an amazing book, and my fave illustrator is in there, tommy kane. i also got this sick urban art book from my brother which i spent about 2 hours flipping through this morning along with the pop up book mommy that maurice sendak did with matthew reinhart (see, pop up gods on my links bar).
so, here we go!
this first one i did for my dad, its an apron with his face looking all bad-ass on it. he is "the grillmaster" we all call him that and he shines so bright in the summer time. i also accompanied the apron with a t-bone steak.
this second one is a portrait i did for my brother of one of his best friends, Stu. Stu is one of a kind and I guess you have to really know him the understand the hilarious comedy in this portrait. he's still kinda funny lookin though
and this last one is for my mom. its this picture of my brother (which is my favorite photograph of all time) and i started painting it in oils like a year ago and basically abadoned it (like many oil paintings ive attempted) and she kept begging me to finish it. so i started new and fresh and did it over again in inks (a much more comfortable medium)
i may go back into it though
so, happy holidays y'all. i'll keep ya updated on the website.

pop up paper engineering
so tuesday, i went to the studio of robert sabuda and matthew reinhart. if you do not know who these amazing men are... google!
my professor, kyle olmon (who is also a crazy talented paper engineer), works alongside them in their studio with a few other people i believe (simon is another guy who was incredibly friendly also). as some of you may know, i am taking a pop up class and i am thoroughly obsessed with it, and i am slowly realizing that i might want to do this forever and ever... and maybe make a career out of it.
unfortunately, robert sabuda was not at the studio when we were there, but matthew was and god he was so great! he was mad busy with deadlines, but he still was able to take time out to give us great advice on the art world and show us some of the many and beautiful things he does. a lot of his artwork is cut-paper collage, where he cuts out little pieces of colored paper to make his images... crazy and gorgeous!
so... i was extra inspired when we went to the studio and i am thinking about talking to my professor about interning there next semester. they were all so wonderful and i really think i would adore being able to get an experience like working next to some of the gods of pop up paper engineering.
so, here's what i've been working on for about 10 hours in the past two days! its part of my final project where i have to make a multiple piece advertisement. i'm doing the new york aquarium and this is one of my pieces.
i'm sleepy. so now i'm just working on drawing some goldfish for one of my illustration assignments. my semester is almost done. i'm freakin' out man!
december 17th is my final survey, if anyone wants to come... let me know! its on pratt campus... if you're interested i'll give you details!

IF: wise.... YES WE DID!
I AM ECSTATIC. I AM SO HAPPY WITH OUR COUNTRY!
GO OBAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
nov. 7-
i thought i'd update a little since i'm posting this as my illustration friday entry (i think its very fittingfor the word 'wise')
this election was memorable and completely monumental, not only for the country but also for me. this being my first election (i turned 18 two years ago so last election was torture being too young to vote) i can't say enough how PROUD i am to have been included in this epic turn of history. being in brooklyn was probably everything i could have asked for. experiencing the eruption of happiness and success was first hand for me and god, was it beautiful.
my roommate and i were relying on updates being texted to me by a friend and my mom so we felt completely removed from what was going on, although we were very anticipatory. we were laying in our beds when at 11:00 we heard screaming and we listened and realized everyone was yelling "OBAMA!" so we went onto our front stoop and oh my god it was amazing. people just pouring out of their houses and yelling and cheering. we put some shoes on and walked through our neighborhood cheering and screaming with everyone. cars were honking people were hanging out of buses... i have never once walked down a street where every single person was beaming ear-to-ear.
i'm still in shock, pretty much. i get goosebumps all over when i remember that this change is coming and my doubts about this country are completely diminished.
the day after the glorious win, i was emailing with my dad and i said that i've never been able to say i'm proud to be an american without feeling corny and cliche, but hell, i am so proud to be an american under barack obama.

mount zion cemetery
so, like i mentioned in the last post, i wanted to go to mt. zion and i finally did. boy oh boy was it a hell of a long trek, but it was so amazing. i am not a spiritual person AT ALL but i couldn't help but be a little taken aback by the sheer beauty and sadness of this cemetery. i took a roll of film and i'll post those at some point but here are two digi photos i took. the lighting was absolutely GORGEOUS!
you can see the empire state building, cool, eh?
ugh the sky was just sooo fantastic.

IF_ packed
usually the subway is much more packed than this at rush hour...
the left side is just a doodle from math class. i prefer drawing to golden ratios.
and here's just another sketch from my book, andrea's tea bag looked so nice and was just begging for me to draw it..
has anyone driven over the Brooklyn Queens expressway and seen the enormous cemetery? well i've been dying to go over there and take some photographs, i finally found out what cemetery it was and i'll be taking a trek there sometime soon (hopefully!)
have a good week! happy october...

IF: clutter
i wish this wasn't so late! but i've been going crazy this past week, and i finally was able to finish inking this morning and since i have no internet, i quickly scanned and uploaded on my break during my illustration class.
as i mentioned before, no internet! this scene was when the verizon technician came for the SECOND time and didn't fix anything either. but i had to pile all of my crap that has collected after the first week of class and plop it on my bed, so i quickly sketched it and cleaned it later.
well, i have to get back to class!
oh! and i dyed my hair dark dark dark dark chocolate brownnn

seaweed, sing to me
here is my illustration friday memories entry:
as a kid, i had so many fish i probably couldn't count on my fingers and toes. this is seaweed, our newest addition to our apartment, my roommate and i just got him yesterday and he is such a sweetie. he's named seaweed after our favorite boy from hairspray.
in other news, my website has finally been updated! there is an actual website there instead of an 'under construction' page! hooray!

classes have begun
so classes started yesterday! i am so excited for this semester because i have lots of awesome and intriguing classes to look forward to. the only thing that sucked yesterday was that my first class of the semester was a science class. even though it was an academic class i still got some drawing done! there was a fabulous photo of some scientist or mathematician (i am assuming) and his nose was just begging to be drawn.. so here it is!
(this is actually posted wednesday, i just backdated it so my IF entry would be topmost. i'll move it when friday passes)
